Finding Happiness in the Present Moment

How can you seek the small wonders and BIG JOY that life is wanting to offer you?

Sometimes, happiness doesn’t arrive with a fanfare or a finish line.
It tiptoes in—quietly—through the crack of a sunbeam, the smell of coffee, the sound of laughter from another room.

In a world that glorifies the “big”—big goals, big moments, big changes—it’s easy to overlook the small. But it’s often the smallest things, the seemingly insignificant moments, that hold the greatest joy.

Here’s a full LWT Episode based on “Small Wonders, BIG Joy!”

The Joy That’s Already Here

Think about the last time you felt truly happy.
Was it during a grand event, or was it that moment when your favorite song played on the radio during a long drive?
Maybe it was the warmth of your pet curling up beside you.
Or the way a stranger held the door and smiled.

These small wonders are everywhere—free, accessible, and abundant. But to notice them, we have to slow down. We have to tune in. That’s where mindfulness becomes a superpower.

A Practice for Noticing

Here’s a simple, 3-step exercise to help you connect to joy in the moment:

1. Pause & Breathe
Take a few slow breaths and ground yourself in the present moment. Look around. What do you see, hear, smell, or feel?

2. Name Three Small Joys
In this very moment, identify three small things that bring you joy. It could be the feeling of your sweater, a tree outside your window, or the sip of tea in your mug.

3. Anchor It with Gratitude
Say “thank you” quietly or aloud for each small wonder you noticed. Let yourself feel that sense of appreciation, however brief.

Big Joy Comes From Small Things

Joy doesn’t have to wait for the perfect conditions.
You don’t need more money, more time, or a vacation to feel connected and fulfilled.
It starts with noticing what’s already here.

Try keeping a Small Wonders Journal for a week. Every evening, jot down three simple things that brought you joy that day. Over time, you’ll rewire your brain to seek out and celebrate the little things—and you may just discover they were the big things all along.
